"I really enjoy being able to help the patients all the way through their therapy process. Since I am with the patient every step of the way, I can more easily make decisions about their treatment."
"I love working at Siskin Hospital!! The people here are great! I feel very comfortable and valued as an employee. As a new nurse coming here 5 years ago, I was scared to death, but the people here were so nice and helpful. The employees here really care about what they are doing to make a difference.
Most of all, I love patient care! To be able to make a difference, even if it's small, in a person's life, whether it be wound care, comforting, or just listening to a patient's concerns, makes my job worth coming to everyday. When I see some of the patients WALK back in here after a traumatic event, I am amazed at how Siskin Hospital DOES make a difference. When people state their concerns for a loved one, I am always telling them, "try to get them at Siskn Hospital... I've seen great things happen." I am so glad Siskin Hospital gave this new nurse a try. I wouldn't trade the experience I received here for anything!"
"I work here because I have learned that our administration cares beyond the average administration. We see and interact with you president and vice presidents and know who they are. Fellow employees care about not only you, but also your family. They call you by name even when you aren't in their department, and are willing to pitch in when they hear that help is needed. Employees here work independently and, because of their great attitude towards work, don't have to be micromanaged.
We are small enough to get lost in the crowd, but big enough to treat a variety of illnesses. We treat patients that we later see out downtown enjoying life, and have learned enough about them to feel like we are running into a friend. Siskin Hospital has a history I am proud to be a part of... a dream we are helping to fulfill."
"I love my job because of the people, patients, and the hospital being a very special place for everyone that enters its doors. The people have a constant atmosphere of work with laughter, which makes it bearable even at hard times. I've been with the Siskin Foundation and Siskin Hospital for the last 22 years in various departments and have enjoyed them all!
My current position in physical therapy allows me to work with many different patients of various backgrounds, which makes my job very interesting. Many patients have become lifelong friends and we have a common thread in life... which is their recovery. Most return to visit and when I see them doing better it is a blessing to my soul and makes me even more eager to help others.
The people I work with are outstanding and some of the most caring people I've ever met. Not only do they care for patients, but for each other also. I personally went through some ordeals with my son and his heart condition in 1999 and they supported me by prayers, visits, gifts, and even trading in their personal time to allow me more time with my son's recovery. The give blood when other employees are having surgeries to help hold down the hospital costs to the individual. There are just so many individual acts of kindness that it's just too many things to mention.
It means the world to me to be able to help improve someone's way of life and help him or her regain the ability to function. This is a special place with a family-friendly atmosphere and some of the most caring people you will ever meet. In all the staff's seriousness, they still take time to tease me and call me "Queen."
