A concussion is a type of mild traumatic brain injury- or TBI- caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to body that causes head and brain to move rapidly back and forth (CDC). Concussion Rehabilitation is a unique assessment and treatment protocols that are utilized to allow for return to activities of daily living (ADL), school, sports, and work as quickly and safely as possible.
As this treatment is a collaborative effort between a patient’s Physician, Neuropsychologist, Athletic Trainer and Physical Therapist, Siskin Hospital offers comprehensive evaluations in Neuropsychology and Physical Therapy.

Initially, your concussion clinic evaluation will involve meeting with one of Siskin Hospital’s Neuropsychologists in which you will discuss your injury, what symptoms are persisting, and background history. This part of the visit will also typically include a brief assessment of cognitive and psychological functioning. The neuropsychologist will then provide you feedback and recommendations on how to expediate and optimize the recovery process.
Your Physical Therapist will assess your balance, strength, exertional tolerance, neck pain/mobility and vestibular function. Our Physical Therapists will assist in developing a plan to allow you to return to school, sports or work as quickly and safely as possible. In our outpatient clinic, we have access to the Siskin Health and Fitness Center which includes indoor/outdoor running track, full weight machines, various cardio equipment, pool and more. With our individualized plan of care, we will work with the appropriate providers to get back safely.
After a concussion, symptoms will typically dissipate or go away completely within 7 days but it can be longer for full recovery.
