Siskin Hospital names Blackston wound care director
Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation has named Ariel Blackston, RN, BSN, CWCN, as director of wound care.
With multidisciplinary nursing experience including acute cardiac ICU care and home health case management, Blackston brings a wide variety of knowledge and skills to the role. After recognizing the prevalence and need for proper wound care management, Blackston sought additional training and obtained her Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN) certification.
“In home health, I noticed that every patient had some type of wound, and I was doing my patients a disservice by not educating myself on the best, evidence based practices,” said Blackston.
From surgical incisions to pressure ulcers, Blackston and her team have already begun making a difference in the care and management of patients’ wounds.
“Being a physical rehabilitation facility, our patients are recovering from numerous injuries and illnesses, many of which require extensive wound care. Having someone with this specialized skillset and passion for patient care is essential in their recovery process,” said Tracy Reed, DNP, MBA, RN, CRRN, vice president of patient care services and CNO.
“Everyone has welcomed me with open arms, and I look forward to empowering other nurses to provide the best possible wound care for our patients,” said Blackston.
Siskin Hospital’s acute inpatient rehabilitation facility provides patients with a comprehensive therapy program, including physical, occupational and speech therapies. It is also consistently recognized as one of the top physical rehabilitation hospitals in the country.
